Thailand's anti-government protesters on Tuesday were allowed to enter the Government House, which has been besieged over the past few days. The protesters stayed there for about half an hour before some of them started to leave. A Xinhua reporter saw about 3,000 protesters inside the compound. Some of them sat on the front lawn, cheering and blowing whistle. A few were standing on a truck parked nearby, giving speeches against the government led by Yingluck Shinawara. The protesters didn't try to enter the main building. Police were seen standing guard at the main entrance. The Government House has been under tight security since last month when tens of thousands of protesters started to take to the streets. Earlier Tuesday morning, police removed the barriers surrounding the compound to make way for protesters to reach the interior fences. Permission was also granted to the protesters to enter the Metropolitan Police Bureau. But they didn't go inside the compound and were demonstrating outside. Prime Minister Yingluck left Bangkok Tuesday morning for Hua Hin to prepare for the celebration of the Thai king's birthday, which falls on Dec. 5.
