
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Mamnoon Hussain on his election President of Pakistan, the Kremlin press service reported on Tuesday. In the congratulatory telegram the RF president expressed the hope that the work of Hussain will promote further development of friendly relations between Russia and Pakistan and stressed readiness to strengthen mutually beneficial Russian-Pakistani cooperation in all spheres. Candidate of the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz Sharif faction (PML-N)) Mamnoon Hussain - a businessman and former Governor of Sindh province has become the next -12th President of Pakistan. The overwhelming majority of members of the lower and upper houses of the federal Parliament (National Assembly and Senate), as well as MPs of parliaments of all the provinces of the Islamic Republic voted for him. According to the constitution of Pakistan, the president is elected for a five-year term. In the political system of the country the president is largely a figurehead, as all power is concentrated in the hands of the Prime Minister, the post of which is taken by a representative of the winning party in parliamentary elections. The presidential election winner Mamnoon Hussain will take the oath and assume duties on September 9 this year, when the term of office of incumbent President Asif Zardari expires. Mamnoon Hussain was born in India on March 2, 1940 in the city of Agra. In 1947, after the division of the British colony into two states, his family moved to Pakistan. In 1965, Hussein received a bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Business Administration, University of Karachi. Then he went into business. In 1960 he joined the PML and in 1999 was elected governor of the Sindh province. He has recently held the post of first deputy chairman of the regional branch of the PML- N in the province of Sindh.
