Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will vote for the mayor of Moscow on Sunday. By tradition, they will cast their ballots at polling stations located in districts where they are registered. “The president will certainly vote for the mayor on September 8,” presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said. Medvedev’s press secretary Natalya Timakova said, in turn, that the prime minister was also planning to visit the campaign headquarters of the United Russia party on September 8. Medvedev has said it many times that this year’s single vote day is special because it will be held in such a format for the first time. “It is certainly a trial for the entire democratic system in Russia. It is a serious political process,” Medvedev used to say at his meetings with the leaders of the United Russia party. “This, perhaps, is something what we have sought to make our political system maximum competitive,” Medvedev, who is the leader of the United Russia party, said. Medvedev and the leaders of the United Russia party will review the vote’s first results in the evening of September 8. Major conclusions will be drawn at a party congress on October 5.
