Russian President Vladimir Putin and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and the heads of other confessions laid down the flowers to the Monument to merchant Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky on the Red Square on the occasion of the Day of National Unity on Monday. Representatives of search and student teams attended the flower-laying ceremony. After the ceremony the president satisfied the request of young people and took a picture with them. The Day of National Unity was instituted in 2005 in memory of the events in 1612, where the militiamen under the guidance of Prince Dmitry Pozharsky and merchant Kuzma Minin liberated Moscow from foreign invaders.
