Russia's security service foiled at least a dozen terrorist attacks this year, says Russian President Vladimir Putin. The president said the Federal Security Service, or FSB, had thwarted 77 "terrorism-related" crimes, including 12 terrorist attacks, RIA Novosti reported Friday. Speaking at a gala marking a holiday for security officers, Putin said special operations by the FSB had resulted in 225 militants being "neutralized," including 40 "gang leaders." More than 500 militants and their accomplices had been arrested, he added. In an apparent reference to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Putin urged security officers to continue working "in the same resolute way" ahead of and during international events to be hosted by Russia next year.
