The State of Qatar firmly believes in the importance of strengthening cooperation between Arab countries and the group of the Pacific islands and that this cooperation should be activated. the first step to move in this direction is to exchange visits between high-level officials, to discuss way of strengthening our cooperation in the economic, social, political and environmental fields, for the benefit to for peoples of the two regional groups, said HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah. Addressing the Ministerial meeting of the Arab States and the Pacific Islands, held here on the sidelines of the 66th UN General Assembly session, HE the Minister Dr. Al Attiyah said : Stemming from its keenness to enhance cooperation between countries of the South , which it considers one of the mechanisms that help to entrench economic development in developing countries, thus, contributing to job creation and the provision of a decent living for their peoples, the State of Qatar will spare no effort to develop this approach of cooperation and turn cooperation between Arab countries and the Pacific islands into the example to be followed in the context of South cooperation. At the political level, we hope that the Pacific islands will support the positions of Arab countries on some of the pressing issues on the Arabic agenda, at the forefront of which the Palestinian issue. In this regard, I urge you to support the efforts made by the Palestine\'\'s request to obtain full membership in the United Nations as an independent State on the boarders prior to 6 June 1967, HE the Minister added.(QNA) HE the Minister said that furthermore, the two regional groups should work together to promote dialogue between cultures and peoples, and to consolidate the principles of respect for religions, freedom of belief, the fight against racism and xenophobia, in line with the efforts undertaken by the Alliance of Civilizations, which the State of Qatar is among the countries that support it. Concluding, HE the Minister Dr. Al Attica renewed the commitment of the State of Qatar to move forward in strengthening the bonds of cooperation between the two goups at all levels.(
