Doha - KUNA

Qatari prime minister and foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al-Thani said the way the UN Security Council (UNSC) was handling the Syrian conflict was unacceptable. Addressing a meeting of an Arab ministerial committee on Syria, Sheikh Hamad hoped current meetings between the US and Russia would reach a common understanding to what was happening in Syria so the UNSC live up to its responsibility. He hoped meetings of the UN-Arab League special representative to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, with the UNSC\'s five permanent members would bring about implementation of Arab and international resolutions on Syria, and to agree on \"the removal of the Syrian regime and forming a government of national unity.\" Sheikh Hamad said it was time that \"blood what was shed in Syria should stop and a transition of power should take place.\" The Syrian regime, he emphasized, has been \"waging a war against its people for around two years now, and destruction happen in most of the Syrian areas while the Arab endeavors failed to solve the crisis.\" Sheikh Hamad hoped the upcoming Friends of Syria meeting in Morocco would result in more recognition in the new Syrian opposition body which was formed in Doha, Qatar. He called for importance of providing quick humanitarian assistance for the Syrian people. Kuwait\'s delegation is headed by Foreign Undersecretary Khaled Al-Jarallah.
