Rafah crossing set to re-open by weekend

Egyptian authorities will reopen the Rafah land crossing to Palestinian travelers in the coming days, Mahir Abu Sabha, who acts as the Director Of Crossings In The Ministry Of Interior In Gaza, said Wednesday. Palestinian news agency Ma’an quoted Abu Sabha today as saying that he expected the Rafah crossing to be opened between Thursday-Saturday. He asserted that talks with the Egyptian side over reopening the crossing were ongoing. Abu Sabha reiterated that the Gaza Strip had nothing to do with the “terrorist attack” on Egyptian soldiers Sunday. The attack left 16 soldiers dead. Closure of the Rafah land port prevented a lot of pilgrims to go for Ummra . It also prevented a lot of patients from receiving the medical attention they need, Abu Sada said. He highlighted that the Gaza Strip ran out of medicines and medical equipment in 450 categories. He warned that the situation could become “disastrous,” if the Rafah crossing is not re-opened.
