Red warrant for Musharraf will be issued in Bhutto murder

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik said on Tuesday that a red warrant for the arrest of former President Pervez Musharraf would be issued in connection with the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Benazir Bhutto was killed in the garrison city of Rawalpindi in 2007 in a suicide bomb attack and firing shortly after she addressed an election rally when Musharraf had been ruling the country. Musharraf had denied any involvement and had blamed then Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsood for masterminding the murder of the two-time Prime Minister. The Interior Minister said that the red warrant for Musharraf will be used through Interpol to bring him to the country. Musharraf resigned in 2008 fearing a parliament impeachment and has been living in exile in Britain and Dubai. Malik told the provincial assembly in southern Sindh province that Benazir Bhutto was not provided the security as was pledged with her on her homecoming nearly five years back in 2007. He said Benazir was forced to stay out abroad in Musharraf era as well, adding, and no security measures were taken up in line with the promises pledged with her as she traced her way back into the homeland. Malik said that all proofs regarding the murder of Benazir Bhutto was gathered and the proceedings against the accused were commenced. “Pervez Musharraf threatened Benazir that if she comes to Pakistan before elections he would not provide security to her”. “We all know that which mindset killed Benazir and who were the planners, carriers and executers of this incident,” he said. Malik revealed that the accused was arrested when he used his SIM after almost one-and-half year of the incident and during investigation he informed investigators regarding all persons and resources used in this blast. “Many other accused were also arrested and investigation has almost completed,” he added. “Every Pakistani is desirous to know about the facts involved in the Benazir murder case,”, he said, adding some matters pertaining to the investigations are of extremely sensitive nature.
