Remember US military, send a letter

The U.S. the Postal Service is encouraging Americas to remember the sacrifices of the men and women of the U.S. military by writing them a letter. \"The Postal Service helps families stay connected to their loved ones who defend our country,\" Patrick Donahoe, the U.S. postmaster general, said in a statement. \"Service members look forward to letters from home. When springing into action, letters from home are not left behind on a cot or at the bottom of a duffel bag. Those letters are tucked safely in pockets. They\'re kept close to their heart -- and they\'re pulled out and read again and again.\" Not only do members of the military like letters from family, friends and acquaintances, but from strangers who appreciate their service. As a domestic stamp, the new Purple Heart Medal Forever stamp is good for mailing 1-ounce cards and letters addressed to service members at Army Post Office (APO), Fleet Post Office (FPO) and Diplomat Post Office (DPO), which is mailed at the domestic rather than international price. First issued as a 37-cent First-Class stamp in 2003, the Purple Heart stamp was reprinted four times due to its popularity. It was issued as a Forever Stamp in 2011, and the new version shows a slightly larger image of the medal on a pure white background, Donahoe said.
