Residents in Japan's Okinawa gather for Anti-Us Military Rally

Residents on the Japanese island of Okinawa held a rally Sunday to protest against the heavy US military presence there and demand a drastic review of arrangements for handling incidents following the alleged murder of a 20-year-old local woman by a civilian US base worker.
Okinawa Gov. Takeshi Onaga attended the rally at a park in the prefectural capital, where he was expected to call for revising the 1960 Status of Forces Agreement that regulates those arrangements, according to (Kyodo) news agency.
Critics say the SOFA, which has never been revised, gives undue protection to US servicemen and base employees.
Okinawa hosts 26,000 US military personnel.
