The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has emerged up the winner of the Gulf Engineering Innovation Forum Award for its Automated Vehicle Management (AVM) System. The award is intended to honor excellence and creativity in two main themes namely: highlighting the joint Gulf engineering efforts & realizing the objectives of Gulf Engineering Forums, and triggering the spirit of competition, innovation and excellence in various engineering disciplines.
In a ceremony recently held in Kuwait, Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency received the award trophy on behalf of Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. The event, which was sponsored by Sheikh Jabir Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, Kuwaiti Prime Minister, saw extensive participation from several GCC entities.
Al Tayer was delighted with the award, which is considered a further addition to the stellar record of achievements made by RTA that boasts of a host of strategic projects and initiatives capable of uplifting the profile of the UAE and Dubai across the region. It would also motivate RTA staffs to recharge their efforts and do their level best in the projects underway, he noted.
"The current AVM System has contributed to reducing the operational costs of the public bus fleet by as much as AED200 million through saving about 36 million wasted kilometers per annum. This has had a clear impact on cutting fuel, maintenance and lubrication costs, and taking Dubai to the threshold of the digital era through Google Maps rendering it the first city in the MENA region in this score. The system also contributed to improving the on-time journeys of buses, and from an environmental viewpoint, it has reduced the carbon dioxide footprint, through slashing wasted kilometers to the tune of 26 million kilograms of gas emissions harmful to both the environment and the public health, let alone the dispensing with papers in managing bus routes," said Al Ali.
"Among the key objectives realized by the AVM System is the improvement of bus on-time departures and arrivals to more than 90%, which contributed to pushing customers’ satisfaction rating past 85%," elaborated Al Ali.
