There is confidence in Russia that the Egyptian people can stop violence and ensure democratic renewal of the country, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Monday. “Egypt marked yesterday the 40th anniversary of the October 6, 1973 Arab-Israeli War,” the commentary says. “Celebration was organized in the capital and a number of other cities. Amid celebration, clashes occurred between supporters and opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood in a number of localities, including central Cairo and its suburbs. Law enforcers tried to stop violence, but loss of life could not be avoided.” Cairo clashes claimed more than 50 lives. Several hundred were wounded. Russia confirms “sincere interest in an early stabilization in friendly Egypt. It believes that the Egyptian people can stop violence and ensure democratic renewal of the country, security and interests of all its citizens by national accord and a broad-based dialogue, drawing the entire spectrum of Egypt’s political forces,” the Russian Foreign Ministry notes.
