A terror act in Beirut’s southern suburb on Tuesday, when Muslims marked the first night of the holy month of Ramadan, should be thoroughly investigated and its perpetrators should be punished, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Wednesday. “A car bomb blast occurred in Beirut’s southern suburb mainly inhabited by Shi’ite Muslims,” he said. “It wounded 53 people, of them 12 were hospitalized with different wounds.” “We express solidarity with the Lebanese authorities and friendly Lebanese people that faced a new bloody act of terrorists. We wish them the soonest possible recovery,” the diplomat said. “The UN Security Council with Russia’s active participation determinedly denounced this terror act and called on all Lebanese to stay united in the face of attempts to disrupt stability in that country,” Lukashevich said. “As for us we once again confirm our support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, civil peace and accord in that country based on constructive dialogue of political forces and mutual respect to all ethnic and confessional groups of the population.”
