Russia warns US against delivering any strikes on chemical facilities in Syria

Russia watches the discussions in Washington on the parameters of a possible US interference into the Syrian conflict with the use of force, the Foreign Ministry reported. “We voice concern about the fact that strikes can be also delivered on the military infrastructure, which ensure security of Syrian chemical arsenals,” the report says. “Thus, we warn the US authorities and their allies against delivering any strikes on chemical facilities and adjacent territories. Such actions would prove a new turn in the tragic events in Syria. High-toxic substances would pose a threat to the environment and the population,” the report says. “We cannot rule out that due to such action militants and terrorists can get access to chemical weapons or combat toxic substances,” the report says. “The US strikes on the Iraqi chemical facility in 1991 contaminated adjacent territories. The consequences can be more tragic for peaceful civilians in Syria and other countries of the region,” the report says.
