Russian cargo aircrafts dropped food parcels and medical kits over a district besieged by the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Saturday, a military source told Xinhua.
The cargo planes airdropped the aid to the trapped people of the Harabish district, which has long been besieged by the IS terror group, said the source on condition of anonymity.
Another Russian cargo plane landed in the international airport of the capital Damascus, carrying aid shipments to the afflicted Syrians, the source added.
Russia has continuously sent relief aid to Syria, particularly to the besieged areas, where its planes would airdrop the food and medicine in the besieged and hard-to-reach areas.
The UN has repeatedly urged the warring parties in Syria to ease the siege imposed on residential areas to allow aid in to alleviate some of the sufferings of the Syrian people.
