Russian bailiffs: No coroner’s resolution over Berezovsky death

Russia’s Federal Bailiff Service has not received the coroner’s resolution over the death of Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky, Russian chief bailiff Artur Parfenchikov, participating in an international scientific and practical conference in Yekaterinburg, told a news briefing here on Wednesday. He noted that court proceedings against Berezovsky, who died in the UK in March, continue. “According to British legislation, law enforcement agencies of that country cannot produce any information as long as the investigation of the criminal case is not over,” Parfenchikov added. “Therefore, information about the cause of Berezovsky’s death cannot be processed legally. Five legal actions are being tried in Great Britain. Along with the late debtor, several co-debtors who are defendants in these cases are on trial. Therefore, a penalty will be joint after Berezovsky’s death,” he noted. Parfenchikov said Russian bailiffs had no exact information about British legal procedures for making claims upon legal successors of a debtor, but added that they were prepared to launch proceeedings. “We expect this procedure. We are prepared for it. But we should get proper legal documents,” Parfenchikov said.
