South Korea's Defense Minister Han Min-koo called on his country's military to remain vigilant as North Korea might carry out a provocation amid the ongoing political crisis in the South involving President Park Geun-hye, Yonhap news agency reported.
He made the remarks during a visit to the 3rd army headquarters, where he also instructed the front line troops to "take immediate action in case of any provocations without waiting for orders," Yonhap reported.
The minister said the response should be made before the incident is reported to higher military headquarters.
On Friday, 300 lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties are set to vote on an impeachment bill against the president who has been embroiled in a massive corruption scandal along with a close confidante since late October.
