Outgoing Portuguese Ambassador to Iran Jorge Cabral conferred on Wednesday with Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on issues of mutual interests. According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the meeting, Salehi referred to historical relations between the two countries and voiced Iran’s readiness to broaden economic ties with Portugal. Iran attaches importance to expansion of cooperation with the European Union, Salehi said. The Islamic Republic of Iran plays a leading role in regional developments and enjoys high level of security and stability, Salehi said, adding that the country could be regarded as a reliable partner for other countries. The outgoing ambassador, for his part, thanked the Iranian foreign minister and highlighted his efforts during his mission to incease the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
