Saudi girl, 17, flees Turkey ‘to foil forced marriage bid’
Istanbul - Arab Today

A young Saudi woman has escaped from her family in the Turkish tourist city of Trabzon and left for Georgia so that her parents could not marry her off to a 50-year-old man.
The revelation came in 16 tweets from her alleged Twitter handle following the “great escape.”
Before sneaking out of the house, the unnamed 17-year-old made sure she had mobiles and passports of all family members, a move apparently meant to render her parents immobile.
The Saudi Embassy in Turkey confirmed that it had received a call from the head of the family about the disappearance of their 17-year-old daughter.
In a statement, the embassy said: “The young girl left for Georgia by crossing the border near Trabzon, in northern Turkey, based on the testimony of the taxi driver who transported her to the port.”
In Georgia, the Saudi Embassy said it has been notified of the girl’s case and is coordinating with the Saudi Embassy in Turkey as well as with the Georgian authorities to ensure the girl’s safety.
Badr Al-Mufrij, a Saudi diplomat in Georgia, said the embassy is trying to find out the girl’s whereabouts. Till the time of going to press, the girl was untraceable.
She tweeted that she fled from her family because of ongoing violence against her.
She also threatened to publish photos of her parents “torturing” her.
