Ramallah - Arab Today

Israeli forces’ quelling of weekly Friday protests and causing scores of Palestinians to suffer tear gas inhalation hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.

The three dailies reported that Israeli forces quelled weekly Friday protests across the West Bank and Gaza Strip, causing scores of Palestinians and international supporters to suffer from tear gas inhalation and detaining several others.

The three dailies reported that Israeli military court upheld the decision to release the soldier who fatally shot a Palestinian man in the Hebron neighborhood of Tal Rumedia to “open detention” on a military base and allowed him to have visits by his immediate family.

Highlighting latest Israeli settlement construction plans, al-Quds reported Israel started the construction of over 1,800 new settler units in four Jerusalem settlements, including a new 'neighborhood’ to be named after US Vice President Joe Biden.

It reported that Israel has extended the permitted fishing zone, making it nine instead of six nautical miles off some parts of Gaza coast.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli forces stormed and took photos for the family house of Ahmad Abu al-Rub in the Jenin town of Qabatiya as a preslude for planned demolition.

The dailies also reported that Indonesia has refused to establish diplomatic relations  with Israel.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Military Spokesperson of al-Qaasam Brigades, Hamas’ military wings, as saying that he would not provide Israel with any information about four captive soldiers “without a price”.

Highlighting the French bid to convene an international peace conference, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported French Envoy Pierre Vimont as stating that they would await for a Middle East Quartet report before taking any action.

Al-Ayyam reported US State Department Spokesman John Kirby as confirming that his country has opened an investigation into possible Israeli human rights violation.
