Second Geneva conference to be in July, while Qusair victims need aid

The Arab League and UN special envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi said, the second Geneva conference on Syria would be in July, instead of June as planned before. Speaking to journalists following his meetings with American and Russian officials in Geneva, Brahimi said, there is a lot more to do to organize the conference. “Today we decided that we can not gather the conference by the end of this month. I hope we can organize it in July. We will continue working with the US and Russia for this end,” said Brahimi. He added, he will have another meeting with American and Russian officials on June 25 in Geneva. -Details of second Geneva conference- Brahimi said the second Geneva conference would be organized under UN auspices, while the US and Russia would play important roles as the two countries initiating the process. First stage of the conference would be composed of a two-days session with participation of high level officials, while no Syrian would attend. In the second stage, Syrian government and the opposition would negotiate under Brahimi\'s facilitation, said Brahimi. -Qusair in need for humanitarian aid- Meanwhile, Chairman of Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces George Sabra called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Syrian Red Crescent to bring humanitarian aid to the people injured during the regime’s attacks in Qusair. George Sabra said, 15,000 people were under life threat, calling for the attention of international community. Forces loyal to the Assad regime has retaken the strategic town of Qusair near the Lebanese border on Wednesday. Qusair has been the center of fighting since May 18 between rebels and Syrian troops backed by fighters from the Hezbollah. The clashes there left many people killed and injured.
