The Senate on Thursday endorsed the 2012 draft law governing the projected independent elections commission, which is stipulated in the newly amended Constitution, as referred from the Lower House. Paragraph 2 of Article 67 of the Constitution stipulates the establishment of an independent commission to oversee and manage parliamentary polls and any other elections called for by the government in all of their stages. Under the 28-article bill, the financially and administratively independent Amman-based commission will oversee and manage any poll requested by the Cabinet. The commission will be run by a council of commissioners comprising a president and four members appointed by a Royal Decree for a non-renewable six-year term, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Also yesterday, the Senate endorsed the 2012 amendments to the Military Housing Law as referred from the Lower House.
