Serbia can\'t recognize Kosovo in current circumstances

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said the German parliament has set very difficult conditions before Serbia to join the EU, adding that the country has not and cannot recognize Kosovo,Serbian news agency Tanjug reported Tuesday. Nikolic told the Croatian Radio-Television that German conditions are motivated by Berlin\'s recognition of Kosovo and by the fact that it wants to see the relations between the two countries developing in a positive direction. \"However, Serbia has not recognized it (Kosovo), it cannot do that and there are conditions it cannot fulfill unless something happens that would allow Serbia and the so-called state of Kosovo to be independent states one day. In this circumstances, this is absolutely impossible,\" said Nikolic, who was in Zagreb to attend the ceremony marking the accession of Croatia to the EU. The Serbian president said that he will discuss this directly with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in order to see whether the conditions adopted by the German parliament actually conceal a demand for Serbia to recognize the independence of Kosovo-Metohija. Nikolic pointed out that the EU as an organization \"in its every report and conversation with us has said that it does not interfere in the matter, that it is status neutral and that is not asking for the recognition of Kosovo.\"
