The Ministerial Development Council discussed on Thursday the formation of a national committee to follow up the implementation of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.
The SDGs were adopted by more than 150 world leaders in September 2015 during the UN summit in New York City. They include 17 development goals. The UAE was one of the participants when the pledge was made to pursue those goals.
Chaired by H.H Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of the Council, the meeting was held at the Presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi.
The national committee will identify priorities of the state within the approved targets. It will also propose regulations and procedures, with the aim to upgrade the state's competitiveness within the approved plan as well as strengthen its position and reputation as a country interested in global issues and challenges.
It was also briefed on the guide regarding provisions and procedures of the partnership contracts between the federal authorities and the private sector. These are references to the federal authorities to enter into partnerships with the private sector.
The move comes within the framework of the state's efforts to stimulate the partnership between the federal authorities and the private sector, and encourage the private sector to participate in development projects and increase investment in different fields to serve the economic and social development.
It will enable the government to benefit from potential financial, administrative, organisational, technical and technological expertise of the private sector to allow members of the community to get the best services.
The council reviewed a number of final account reports of the State Audit Institution; the General Authority for Civil Aviation; the Central Bank of the UAE; the Emirates Identity Authority, the General Authority for Pensions and Social Security, and Emirates Diplomatic Academy.
It also discussed a number of topics on the agenda and took appropriate decisions.
