Shoigu: In discussing European missile defense Baltics must be born in mind

In discussing the problem of the European ballistic missile defense it is a must to take into account the placement of some of its components in the Baltics and the Barents Sea, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Friday after “two- plus-two” format consultations between Russian and US foreign and defense ministers. “We maintain that the missile defense sites that have already been selected should be complemented with the sea-based system related issues, in particular, the components in the Barents Sea and the Baltics. These are among our concerns,too,” Shoigu said. “Besides, there must be the understanding we are not against each country building up its own security and protection, but we are against ensuring that protection at Russia’s expense,” Shoigu said.
