At least 15 Palestinians were injured on Monday when Israeli soldiers used force to disperse protesters who were demonstrating outside Ofer military camp, near Ramallah, in solidarity with Khader Adnan, a prisoner on hunger strike for 58 days. Israeli soldiers attacked the protesters, mainly university students, with sound grenades and gas bombs when they arrived at the fence separating Ramallah from the military camp, which also includes a prison. One Palestinian was shot in the head with a rubber bullet while others suffered suffocation as a result of the heavy bombardment of gas grenades. Adnan, a leader from the Islamic Jihad, has been on a hunger strike for 58 days in a row protesting his detention without charge or trial. He was arrested in mid-December and later sentenced to four months in administrative detention. Palestinians are worried he might die as a result of the hunger strike, the longest ever in the history of prisoners. Adnan has already lost over 40 kilograms and has been in-and-out of hospital for the last three weeks.
