Chicago emergency rooms were kept busy early Sunday by a series of street shootings that police said left at least 15 people injured. There were no reported deaths in the seemingly unrelated pre-dawn incidents around the city but one man was in critical condition after someone opened fire on the car in which he was riding. The 21-year-old victim was shot in the head on West 44th Street. Police told the Chicago Tribune the driver pulled over a block away where a security guard called an ambulance. The motives behind most of the shootings were not immediately known; however, one 48-year-old man was hit in the shoulder while fighting with two assailants he said tried to rob him outside his apartment on South Burnham Avenue.
