Buddhist monks have demonstrated in Sri Lanka\'s capital to urge India not to support a proposed UN resolution calling on Sri Lanka to probe wartime rights abuses. The monks marched to the Indian embassy on Wednesday with a large banner saying that support for the resolution would hurt the long-standing friendship between the two countries. Sri Lanka\'s government sees the US-backed resolution as interference in the country\'s internal affairs and has urged citizens to join protests against it. The UN Human Rights Council is expected to vote on the resolution this week. Sri Lankan soldiers defeated Tamil Tiger rebels to end a quarter-century civil war in 2009. Both sides have been accused of serious human rights violations.
