Stable security situation guarantee for Afghan transition process

A Chinese diplomat has stressed the importance of a stable security situation for the transition process in Afghanistan, urging all parties to protect civilians, Xinhua news agency reported. Wang Min, China\'s deputy permanent representative to the UN, made the remarks at a Security Council meeting on the situation in Afghanistan. The Chinese envoy noted that \"a stable security situation constitutes an important guarantee for the smooth transition of the country,\" and urged all parties to comply with the international humanitarian law and other relevant international laws to fulfill their responsibilities of protecting civilians. \"China has always supported the national reconciliation led by all-Afghans,\" Wang stressed. \"The national reconciliation of Afghanistan must be led by the government and people of Afghanistan.\" Meanwhile, the Chinese diplomat called on the international community to honor their commitment to assistance to Afghanistan and strengthen the capacity-building of development. Wang also highlighted that a successful election in 2014 is of great significance for the consolidation of peaceful reconstruction in Afghanistan. \"We hope that the Afghan people would continue to pursue dialogue and consultations as the way to address their differences and ensure the success of the elections.
