Tropical depression No. 5 was heading toward the Windward Islands in the Caribbean at 20 mph, U.S. forecasters said Thursday. At 11 a.m. EDT the depression was 450 miles east of the Windward Islands moving west, sporting maximum winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center in Miami reported. The center said the depression should be near the Windward Islands Friday, with little strengthening for the next day or so, but some strengthening after that. A tropical storm watch was still in effect for Barbados, St. Vincent, the Grenadines, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
