The UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, won the UAE Innovation Award for Humanitarian Aid during its participation in the 13th Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference and Exhibition (DIHAD), which was held from 21st - 23rd March 2016 under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
During DIHAD, which was held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the theme ‘The importance of innovation in humanitarian aid and development’, Suqia communicated with stakeholders, companies, and the public sector to enhance the UAE’s international position on humanitarian aid and initiatives, and to promote the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award. The award began receiving applications on 22nd March, to coincide with World Water Day.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, expressed his happiness on winning the award, and commended the exhibition and its organisation. "We are pleased to have won the UAE Innovation Award for Humanitarian Aid during the 13th DIHAD, the biggest humanitarian aid and development event in the region, which has created a platform to facilitate great opportunities and communication between over 9,000 visitors," said Al Tayer.
"We would like to present the UAE Innovation Award for Humanitarian Aid to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who launched Suqia to support innovation and worldwide humanitarian aid, enhancing the UAE’s global position while participating in humanitarian aid initiatives to improve the living conditions of poor and affected communities around the world. The award contributes to achieving the National Innovation Strategy, launched by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid to transform the UAE into one of the most innovative countries in the world over the next seven years," added Al Tayer.
Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, emphasised the role the award plays to motivate Suqia to continue its efforts in humanitarian aid development, and enhance its international humanitarian mission to strengthen local, regional, and international cooperation.
"The UAE Innovation Award for Humanitarian Aid, won by Suqia during DIHAD, enhances the UAE’s international position. The UAE ranked as the world's largest donor of official development aid, and also ranked first as the world’s largest donor of official development aid and gross national income for the second year consecutively, according to the latest report from the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development," said Al Shamsi.
