
Swedens Foreign Minister Carl Bildt Monday called for more humanitarian access in Syria saying the situation there is deteriorating even further. Speaking to reporters ahead of an EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, he called on the EU to put pressure on the Syrian regime which, Bidlt said, "is using hunger as a weapon in a conflict that is getting increasingly dangerous." He condemned as "a scandal" that the UN Security Council has not been able to agree on the humanitarian aid to Syria. Replying to a question on international negotiations with Iran on the nuclear issue in Geneva on Wednesdaty, he replied "I think the prospects are good. They are extremely close. There is no question that this is in our interest. It is an interim agreement, a six months arrangement but an highly significant one." "I think it is important that everybody is ready to go the extra mile to get that agreement," he added.
