The Syrian army repelled an attack by militant forces on a strategic residential area in Deir Ezzur city in Eastern Syria. The army pushed back a group of armed rebels from Al-Rashdiya district in Deir Ezzur before the militants could stretch over the area, FNA dispatches said. The Syrian army killed tens of terrorists and injured dozens more in Cinema Foad street of Deir Ezzur in heavy clashes. Meantime, the army units attacked the concentration centers of armed rebels in Al-Entelaq Al-Qadim district and the city’s cultural center. There have been no reports on the possible number of casualties on the two sides during the Al-Qadim clashes. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and civilians being reported across the country. Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
