Damascus - Syrian President, Bashar al-Asad, described Russia's stands vis-a-vis Syria and the region as important, based on international principles, laws and conventions, while achieving the Syrian and Russian people's interests."The Syrian people are facing terrorism, foreign interference and pressures on Syria similar to what Russia and China have faced for years, since the history of the West is of colonial nature and Western countries have a problem with any independent state, regardless whether small or large," added al-Asad.The Syrian President's words came during his meeting with a Russian delegation, including parliamentarians and religious and social figures, headed by Russian Duma Property Affairs Committee Head, Sergei Gavrilov.Asad stressed before the delegation on the need to stand firmly in the face of all extremist, takfiri and terrorist movements. He also highlighted the necessity of establishing an international coalition against terrorism. In turn, members of the Russian delegation said that their visit was of a "humanitarian nature, in solidarity with the Syrian people, who are courageously facing terrorism." They considered that in its confrontation of terrorism, Syria not only defends its own interests and those of the region, but also defends peace and security in the world at large.
