The First Vice President of the Republic, Ali Osman Taha, was briefed on the issues concerning the UN work in Sudan and challenges facing the developmental and humanitarian affairs in the country. This came in his meeting Monday with the UNDP Coordinator in Sudan, Ali Al-Zaatari. Al-Zaatri said in statement to SUNA that his meeting with the First Vice - President discussed development and humanitarian issues and the opportunities to assist efforts of the government and NGOs operating in the development and humanitarian fields. Al-Zaatari stressed the importance of moving from the emergency humanitarian work to the long-term developmental work and helping the national capacity building, a matter which is a goal of the UN Development Program in Sudan and the other developing countries. He pointed to the contribution of the UN organizations to extending relieve materials and humanitarian aid to the effected citizens in South Kordofan, Darfur and the Blue Nile States.
