Casualties were feared after Taliban gunmen stormed house of a parliament member in capital of Afghanistan Wednesday night.

The attack triggered a gunfight between security forces and the attackers in the western edge of the city, police said.

"House of Malim Mir Wali representative of southern Helmand province came under attack in Khoshal Mina locality. The Crisis Response Unit (CRU) of Kabul police arrived and were responding to the attack," a police official told Xinhua anonymously.

The attack started roughly at 06:20 p.m. and security forces cordoned off the area for precautionary measures.

Some two to three militants were involved in the attack, he said.

Witnesses said that they heard three heavy explosions. They said a meeting of provincial security officials and local elders was underway in the building before the attack.

"We still cannot provide details on causalities. There is fear of possible causalities, both civilian and security forces,"the source added.

"So far, we have no more details, but we will try to get more information," he said.

Unofficial sources said that four persons and one attacker were killed since the clash broke out.

The Taliban claimed the responsibly for the incident.
