The Tunisian General Labour Union (TGLU), the Tunisian Human Rights League (THRL) and the Bar exhort all political parties, independents and coalitions running for the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) election to abide by the decree-laws ruling the electoral process, to show their sense of citizenship and mutual respect and consecrate the mechanisms of fair competition, as a token of loyalty to the martyrs of the Revolution. In a joint statement made public on Wednesday, the signees call on the running tickets to stage their electoral campaigns in a climate of serenity, to focus on presenting their programmes in an objective and clear way and encourage their party members to accept the democratic orientation, in order to elect a National Constituent Assembly that represents all trends. Signees also call on civil society components, organisations and NGOs to play a key role in guiding the voters, and encourage the media to contribute in a thoughtful manner to the success of the electoral operation through the organisation of awareness campaigns targeting both candidates and voters so as to avoid any negative impact on the electoral process. The security forces, for their part, are called upon to show vigilance and sense of citizenship and democracy vis-à-vis candidates and electors, and not to provide any excuses to those who want to impede the electoral process, the joint statement adds. The signees commend the measures taken by the caretaker government to offer the needed conditions for the organisation of democratic, transparent and credible elections, exhorting it to show neutrality towards all running tickets.
