Thailand's anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban on Friday evening called on people from across the nation to join a massive rally on Dec. 9, which he said would be "the final showdown with the government." Suthep called on the Thais throughout the country to stop work and classes on Dec. 9 to join the street protest. The rally will start at 9:39 a.m., according to him. If the number of protestors reaches 1 million that day, Suthep will declare victory and a "people's council" will then be formed to exercise people's power and govern the country; but if not, he will concede defeat and surrender himself to the police, Suthep said.
