Tunis - Tap

"Tunisia pledges itself to abide by the Arab League Council's Resolution on Syria, adopted during the extraordinary ministerial meeting held, on November 12 in Cairo," said information director for the Foreign Affairs Ministry Mohamed Ali Nafti. Joined on Monday by telephone, Mr. Nafti told TAP news agency that Article 2 of the Arab League Resolution enables the League of Arab States secretary-general to get in direct touch with the concerned Arab organisations and establish, in case of continuing violence, contacts with the international human rights organisations, including the United Nations Organisation. He went on explaining that consultations with the Syrian opposition had been started to make all necessary arrangements to stop the bloodshed in that country and submit these  arrangements to the next Arab League Council's meeting scheduled, for November 16 in Rabat. The November 12 Arab League resolution on Syria stipulates the suspension of the Syrian government delegations' participation in the Arab League's meetings, as well as the relevant organisations and structures, the protection of civilians and enforcement of economic and political sanctions against Syria. This resolution also calls on the Syrian army to refrain from acts of violence and murder of civilians and urges the Arab countries to pull out their ambassadors from Damascus.
