Tunis - Tap

Tunisia voiced "deep concern" at the continuous infringements on the country's territorial integrity and security by some illegal and armed Libyan nationals, reminding that they expect from the Libyan side to take urgent measures to re-instate the Ras Jedir border crossing under the responsibility of regular and professional police force, the army and the customs. In a communiqué released on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry reasserts that Tunisia "understands the exceptional conditions that sisterly Libya is going through" and that these encroachments "should not upset the fraternal relations binding the two countries and peoples." It is to be reminded that the Ras Jedir crossing point was closed on November 30, following an incident caused by a Libyan national who threatened with a gun the border police.  The Ras Jedir border staff denounced the repetitive nature of such incidents and decided to suspend activity in protest against the absence of protection and bad management of the crossing point on the Libyan side.
