Tunisian Interim Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali has met here with Qatar Charity’s Executive Chairman Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Kuwari and its Executive Director Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, who are currently visiting Tunis. During the meeting ,held here last night and attended by HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Tunisia Saad bin Nasser Al-Humaidi, the two sides reviewed the projects that will be accomplished by Qatar Charity within the first phase of its development projects in Tunisia. These projects include, set up pilot collective health care centres and primary schools in rural areas, supply drinking water to rural areas through drilling solar-energy supplied wells, carry out a pilot project for the promotion of low-cost housing in underprivileged areas through local human resources and develop farming co-operatives and ensure training of young unemployed farmers who want to set up business as well as lay out rural tracks in irrigated areas to ease farming works, connect production and consumption centres and open up neighbouring areas. During a ceremony held here last Monday in the presence of Tunisian Farming Minister Mohamed Ben Salem, Qatar Charity’s Executive Chairman gave the go-head for the first phase of these projects. They also inaugurated Qatar’s Charity office in the capital Tunis to follow up the implementation of these projects and prepare for other development projects. Qatar Charity said in a statement launched here on Wednesday that its first development project called ‘Daymouma’ in Tunisia will cost of QR55 million . It will also benefit more than 125,000 people there. A statement issued by the organisation said that Yousef al-Kuwari, the executive president of Qatar Charity, who is visiting Tunis leading a delegation, will launch the QR55mn programme called ‘Daymouma’. For his part, Mohamed Ali al-Ghamdi, Qatar Charity’s Executive Director for Local Development said the aforesaid project will help develop rural areas through a number of education, health, water, building about 250 houses and roads in the rural areas. Al-Ghamdi further said that these projects will benefit each of the states of Tataouine, Medenine , Qabali (tribal), Qabis, Turuz, Gafsa, Sfax, Kasserine, Mahdia, Kairouan, Sousse, Sidi Bouzid and others. It is worth to mention that Qatar Charity is a non-governmental organization, founded in 1992 for the development of the Qatari society and other needy communities. It works in the fields of sustainable development, reducing poverty, and disaster relief and emergency response. QC endeavors to serve all needy people and communities regardless of their color, sex, religion, race or nationality. It has been in a consultative status with the UN ECOSOC since 1997. It is also a member of the General Founding Conference of the Arab Network for NGOs in Cairo since 1999.
