The Tunisian Ministry of Interior said Thursday evening it started investigating the bloody clashes which took place in the southern city of Tataouine earlier today. The body of Lutfi Naqd, secretary general of the local union of farmers and fishers who died during the clashes , bore no hallmarks of violence; the man was suffering from a heart disease, said a statement by the ministry, citing preliminary results of an autopsy conducted by Qabes university hospital. A protest demonstration, staged by the poplar league for revolution protection to press for ending corruption at the local administration, turned violent when the protesters engaged with a group of supporters of Naqd. The two sides belted stones and Molotov cocktails on each other before the security services intervened, according to the statement. Besides the fatality, nine other persons were injured.
