Tunisian president Moncef Marzouqi Friday called for the formation of a mini-cabinet \"to salvage the country from the tense situation.\" Addressing the nation, Marzouqi called for conducting an independent investigation into the violent actions that have been taking place in the northwest state of Sleineh. He criticized the interim coalition government for failing to honor demands of the people, as well as inability to address files of development and corruption. He, therefore, called for formation of more capable mini-cabinet to work on economic and social development. This government, added Marzouqi, should carry out deep reforms and crack down on corrupted people. He said Tunisia was at a cross-road, appealing for vigilence. Fierce confrontations have been taking place between protesters and security forces due to deteriorating economic and social conditions. Medical sources said the clashes injured more than 270 people.
