\'\'Yesterday\'s attack from Syria is a flagrant violation of international law, and we call on the Security Council to adopt all necessary measures,\'\' Turkish UN Ambassador Ertugrul Apakan wrote on Thursday in a letter to the UN Security Council obtained by ANSA. \'\'The Syrian aggression against Turkey is a threat to international peace and security.\'\' The Security Council is debating a draft condemnation of the Syrian mortar attack yesterday on the Turkish border town of Akcacale, which left five people dead. Russia is so far vetoing the measure, and wants to amend the text. Also on Thursday, Turkey has stopped shelling Syrian government army positions, Turkish security sources said. Turkey began shelling Syria in retaliation last night, and continued this morning. Turkish authorities have not formally suspended the operations.
