Cairo - KUNA

A number of Egyptian government officials called on Turkey, Tuesday, to stop interfering in the internal affairs of Egypt, expressing discontent towards recent Turkish remarks regarding the situation in the country. Advisor to the interim Egyptian Presidency Ahmad El-Muslimani said that Ankara should respect Egyptian sovereignty and not interfere with the internal affairs of the Egypt. \"Cairo did not interfere in the recent political upheaval in Taksim square, and Ankara should do the same,\" he said. Echoing the sentiment in a similar response, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bader Abdelmuti said in press release that recent remarks by the Turkish government breached the rights of the Egyptian people. The official called on Turkey to respect the historical relations with his country and stressed that Egypt would not accept statements in violation of the UN charter. The Egyptian reaction came after remarks made by President Abdullah Gul which called for the release of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. According to Turkish news daily Today\'s Zaman, the President made the remarks during his weekend meeting with new Egyptian Ambassador to Turkey Abdurrahman Salahaddin.
