Turkey welcomed the appointment of the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan as the joint UN-Arab League envoy to Syria. \"Based on a decision of the UN General Assembly on February 16, Annan, as part of his good will mission, will hold talks in order to end violence in Syria, overcome the humanitarian crisis and open up the path for the political transition process according to the legitimate demands and expectations of the Syrian people,\" the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, quoted by the state-run Anadolu Agency. Ankara is keen on cooperating closely with Annan to find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis, added the statement.
