Turkish engineer killed in Afghan roadside blast

A Turkish engineer with a privateTurkish construction firm and his translator were killed last Wednesday when a roadside bomb ripped through their car in Afghanistan\'s Kandahar province, the engineer\'s employers said Saturday. Niyazi Berberoglu, a long-time and his Afghan translator were returning to Kandahar after an inspection at a construction site in Spin Boldak, a town near the Pakistani border some 100 kilometers to the southeast. The engineer\'s remains will be flown back to Turkey on Sunday from capital Kabul and he will be laid to eternal rest in Turkey\'s western port city of Izmir. According to UN data, 868 civilians were killed in 2012 in roadside bomb blasts as the number of civilian deaths reached nearly 15 thousand in the past six years.
