Turkish President Abdullah Gul on his Twitter account stated that he is pleased to learn the phone call between US President Obama and Iranian President Rohani and added : “I have also been encouraging such dialogue for a long time. I hope this would be a good start.” US President Obama announced in a press conference that he had spoken to Iranian President Hassan Rohani. In the conference Obama told reporters that this phone call is the first call between Iranian and American top officials since 1979 which shows the deep mistrust between the two countries. Obama considered the phone call as a historic step which signifies the efforts to go beyond frozen historical relations. Indeed the West is quite hopeful of Iran since Rohani adopted a new discourse after the elections and attended the P5+1 foreign ministers meeting and opened the gates for a new phase of negotiations on Iranian nuclear program.
