
The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, today received UAE Minister of State, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, at the presidential palace, in the presence of Turkmen Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rasit Owezgeldiyewic Meredow, and the UAE Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Hassan Abdullah Al Adhab.
Al Jaber presented President Berdimuhamedow with an invitation from President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to visit the UAE.
The Turkmen President accepted the invitation and said he was ready to visit the UAE, which he described as his second home, as soon as possible to meet President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed and his brother Sheikhs.
Al Jaber conveyed to the Turkmen President the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
President Berdimuhamedow requested that Dr. Al Jaber convey greetings to Their Highnesses the President, Vice President and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince.
After diplomatic relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan were established in 1995, their bilateral economic, political and media relations have grown significantly while their mutual trade stood at around US$1 bn in 2014.
The UAE Embassy in Ashgabat was opened in July 2002.
The UAE-Turkmen joint committee for cooperation met for the first time in November in 2012 in Abu Dhabi.
To date, more than 33 agreements and documents for cooperation between the sectors and governments of the two countries have been signed to promote their bilateral relations in various fields.
